Nature in and around Kaatsheuvel
Endless walks through the unique sand dunes and the flowering heather in 'De Loonse en Drunense duinen', enjoy a boat trip on an battery-powered fluisterboot (whispering boat) in 'De Biesbosch' estuary ... around Kaatsheuvel you can find lots of varied nature parks. The following tips are worthwhile:
- Nationaal Park De Looonse en Drunense Duinen: one of the largest sand dunes in Western Europe with large areas of sand, heathland and woodland. A great place for hiking, cycling, mountain biking, horseback riding and ... just lazing in the sand!
- De Biesbosch National Park: a rare freshwater tidal area with several visitor centres, where you will discover everything about this area, which can be explored on foot or via the water
- De Moerputten - one of the few remaining peat bogs in southern Netherlands, with a beautiful steel bridge over the marsh, where you can have lovely walks
- Slagenlandschap Langstraat: between Waalwijk and Waspik is a unique landscape characterised by old drainage channels between elongated plots of grassland and wet peat bog, with a nice walking trail
